🤔 Alexa, Speak More Like Me?

Plus, one area of home automation that hasn't gone mainstream yet...

VoiceBrew is the #1 newsletter for Alexa and Google Assistant enthusiasts

🏠 Good afternoon and Happy Thursday! Apple is reportedly working to expand its smart-home lineup, taking on Amazon and Google. Here's what's in the Cupertino company's pipeline.

🪟 Speaking of smart homes, today's sponsor is working on the one area of home automation that hasn't gone mainstream yet...

There's One Big Opportunity Left in Home Automation 🏡

When you think of home automation, all the great investment opportunities have been taken, right?

You've got Nest, the smart thermostat, that Google bought for $3.2 billion, Ring, the smart doorbell, that Amazon bought for $1.2 billion, and August Lock that Assa Abloy acquired.

But there's one area of automation that hasn't gone mainstream yet. And this company is about to do just that.

  • This one tech company has returned investors 40% year-over-year, even in this market downturn

  • And early investors have already seen a 10X return since 2015

  • This company has incredibly strong patents in the smart home space, patents capable of removing copycat sellers from Amazon

  • This startup has already generated over $5 million in online sales only, and is now at an inflection point, about to scale aggressively into retail and B2B real estate developers.

  • This company has the potential to be the next Ring or Nest, yielding major gains for early investors.

6 Different Alexa Voice Options

Matching Your Speed Preferences

By this point, most Alexa fans know that you can change Alexa’s voice to mimic celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson or Melissa McCarthy. While this is fun in the short term, having Sam Jackson yell at you can get old a little quickly. But, did you know that you can also adjust Alexa’s normal speaking voice to turn her speed and cadence up or down, depending on your preference?

For example, I’m from South Jersey so I’d love to have Alexa rattle off responses just as quickly as I’m firing off my questions. For other fans of brevity, you can also put Alexa into Brief Mode, where she’ll give you short-form answers to all your questions.

On the other hand, for any readers who are from Southern California, you can program Alexa to chilllll and slow down her talk speed. This way, you won’t miss any details as Alexa is skimming through the week’s surf forecast.

To activate this feature, just say “Alexa, speak faster" “speak slower" or “speak at your default rate”. For Brief Mode, you can activate it in the Voice Response section of the Alexa app.

More Speaking Modes

In addition to Brief Mode, there are two more modes that can impact Alexa’s voice depending on the situation you’re in.

For example, let’s say that you’re in an intense game of hide and seek and need to command Alexa without giving away your hiding spot. To prepare for this strangely unique scenario, you can put Alexa in Whisper Mode so that she knows to whisper her responses to anything you whisper to her.

Or, if you like to entertain, then you can put Alexa into Adaptive Mode so that she will naturally increase her speaking volume in loud environments. This mode is similar to how your phone screen automatically gets brighter in the sunlight, except it’s with Alexa’s speaking volume.

Changing The Wake Word

Finally, for all the real-life Alexas of the world, you can stop the confusion by changing the word that activates her to start listening (called Alexa’s wake word). Alexa comes pre-programmed with “Hey Alexa” as her wake word.

But, you can change it to a number of different options by scrolling through Settings and selecting Wake Word. These are just a few of the ways that you can personalize your Alexa to fit your listening preferences.
