Alexa, Thank My Driver

15 Billion Packages

Here's a fun fact for you as you start your Friday. Amazon is on the precipice of delivering its 15-billionth package. That is truly mind-blowing when you think about how far the company has come since it launched back in 1994.

This milestone would not be possible without the drivers that help deliver the packages. This is not an easy job and there are certain times of the year that are especially busy. This holiday stretch is one of them. In fact, last year one driver said the high order volume during the holiday "makes life hell." That's not great, but this year, Amazon is enlisting Alexa's help to give back.

Dough for Your Driver

If you live in the US and you have an Alexa-enabled device (Echo, Echo Show) or the Alexa or Amazon Shopping mobile apps, you'll be able to thank your drivers with a $5 tip. That's right, the people who are working like crazy to make sure all of Santa's gifts come on time can get a $5 tip if their customer says, “Alexa, thank my driver.” This comes at no cost to you by the way.

These drivers have formed "relationships with customers, provide support to the community in tough moments, and sometimes play the role of the unexpected hero," Amazon said in a recent release. They've heard this through, "... many examples through social media, emails, phone calls, and when talking with friends and family. You can even read some of them for yourself." As the 15 billion packages milestone gets closer, this was one way they felt like they could give back.

But Wait, There's More

Amazon said that they will be doing this for the first 1 million thank-you’s they receive. Plus, "the five drivers who receive the most customer “thank-you’s” during the promotional period, will also be rewarded with $10,000 and an additional $10,000 to their charity of choice."

If you know and love your driver, be sure to use your Alexa to send them a holiday tip this year. It's free for you and goes a long way for them, especially if everyone joins in!
