Say Hello to the Dynamic Duo

Alexa And Sonos Expand Partnership

After announcing an expanded partnership with the speaker company Sonos, Amazon’s Alexa will soon be available on a wide range of Sonos products including Sonos Roam, Move, Arc, Beam, Five, and One. The software update will go live in 27 different countries (to learn which ones, just skip to the bottom).

If you already use a Sonos speaker then you might be familiar with the Sonos voice assistant, which is appropriately named “Sonos Voice Control”. Sonos will not be abandoning this venture. Instead, it plans to make Alexa available alongside SVC.

Sonos Voice Control is currently only available in the US and France.

What's Changing

Soon, Alexa’s International Version will be available on the Sonos Roam, Move, Arc, Beam, Five, and One. This means that these devices will be able to perform common Alexa tasks like voice-controlling music, updating calendars, setting timers, making shopping lists, and more.

Users will also be able to control their speakers in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This will go quite a long way in helping bring the power of Alexa into more homes.

It’s also worth noting that these devices will now be able to access Amazon services like Amazon Music and Amazon Prime Video. Other non-Amazon services like Spotify, TuneIn, and Netflix will also be available.

International Love

With this expansion, Alexa continues her quest for global domination. Or, at least, her quest to bring voice-activated convenience to the world.

For reference, Sonos sold around 18 million speakers over the past three years. While not every single one of these will be Alexa-powered, the majority of them will. On top of that, this partnership will go a long way in helping Alexa enter new countries and flex her multilingual muscles. If you own a Sonos speaker, there’s a good chance that you now own an Alexa as well.

A full list of countries where Sonos speakers will support International Alexa:

Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey.
