Talk Turkey to Me

3 Alexa Cooking Skills To Use On Turkey Day

Although she can’t physically help you baste your turkey, Amazon’s Alexa could still prove to be of some use in the kitchen this Thanksgiving.

After digging through Alexa’s library of over 25,000 skills, there are three skills that stand out and could actually be useful in the kitchen leading up to Thanksgiving.

Testing Alexa’s Cooking Skills

For Alexa’s first skill, she’s actually going to be calling in backup in the form of Betty Crocker. The Ask Betty Crocker skill is a phone-a-friend-style skill where Alexa gives you personalized cooking advice. For example, you can ask her about things like cooking times, temperatures, or even ingredient substitutions and she’ll do her best to answer. Just remember to say, “Alexa, Ask Betty Crocker how long to cook a 10-lb ham.”

Speaking of swapping ingredients, Ingredient Sub is another useful Alexa cooking skill that suggests alternative ingredients in recipes. This could be perfect when cooking for your California friend who only eats paleo-friendly, keto, gluten-free non-HBO meals. In all seriousness, it’s a great skill to know in case you’re cooking for people with dietary restrictions.

It can also come in handy in the event that you run out of a key ingredient and don’t feel like running back out to the store.

Get Her A Mixer

Finally, with The Bartender Skill, Alexa can help your guests wash down their mashed potatoes with a delicious cocktail. Life hack: If you casually mention this skill to your guests then they’ll surely want to test it themselves, which saves you from having to make everyone drinks.

In total, Alexa can help you make more than 12,000 cocktails. With this in mind, maybe 2022 is the year that you finally retire the ole’ alcohol + soda mixed drink.

With this many relevant Thanksgiving skills, we’re excited to see how Alexa ups her game for Christmas.
